This is an outstanding novel, I didn't want to put it down. Correction: I couldn't put it down. This is a longer novel, roughly 500 pages, but every one of those pages are needed. Kim builds the story up in a way I haven't seen in a long time. She builds the back story of Kayn and Kevin thus building the bond the have together as well as with Chloe. I would have like a little more story on Chloe. She was a big part of Kayn, but we don't know much about her personality and what else made her the darker one. Readers get a small glimpse into not only Ankh but the other clans, I am sure the other novels will continue with the story of Ankh.

Kayn is an incredible character, I wanted to see more of her fighting and using skills she has, but I am sure that will come in more novels. I enjoyed the companionship built through the group of Ankh members as they train with Kayn and Kevin. Readers see them bonding and becoming Kayn's family. We see Kayn becoming stronger as well as the clan relying on each other for strength. Where one was weak another was strong, portraying the

"Sweet Sleep" by Kim Cormack is the first book in the "children of Ankh" series and follows twin sister Kayne through the tragedy of her "correction" an into the life of an immortal. Kayne is a sweet, naïve 17 year old young woman, who struggles in the shadow of her more popular and enchanting twin sister Chloe. Her biggest focus is running and her best friend Kevin, until tragedy strikes and changes everything that Kayne knows and holds dear. This is my first Kim Cormack book and I was overwhelming pleased, giving this book 5 hearts. This book starts off a little slow, but once it gets going it's a page turner. I did feel at times it was a little long and had too quick of scene and conversation transitions that slows it down because I had to go back to follow along, but it was still a great read. The cliff hanger ending left me wanting the next book.

Kayn’s world was destroyed in one night. Her family and her twin sister taken away from her. She was left for dead, but survived. But, surviving is just the beginning. Finding out what she really is and how she must now protect herself will be the hardest journey. Kayn isn’t alone in this though. With her best friend, Kevin, beside her with his own powers and their new budding relationship they will face challenges that will change them both. Can Kayn survive and will her relationship with Kevin last?

This was a great first book in this series. The creation of the world, the tiers and clans are well crafted. Within the world are the diverse characters, even the twins are unique. Kayn and Kevin are the most diverse characters. You get to see them grow and change through the trials and training they go through. In a bit of typical fashion, Kayn and Kevin still go through the teenage growing pains of jealousy and love, but the biggest challenge to them is the acceptance of their new life that parallels their current teenage life. Kim Cormack weaves a great paranormal young adult book. This is a strong start to a series that I am looking forward to continuing. If you are looking for a new series that will have you craving more, than you will want to pick up this book ASAP.

5.0 out of 5 starsKayn is the good twin and Chloe is the bad twin
on August 22, 2015

I give this book 5 fangs.

This book was a gift from the author and Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock for an honest review.

Kayn and Chloe are twins, one of them was not meant to be in this world. Kayn is the good twin and Chloe is the bad twin. Kayn is used to being overlooked because of Chloe, the only thing she has is her bestfriend Kevin. Close to the twins sixteenth birthday they are corrected. Will one survive?

The book was written in third person making it easy to follow. My favorite character is Kayn, because she goes through difficult obstacles throughout the story and finds a way to overcome them. She is funny, smart, kind, and brave. The book had romance and action in it, there was a lot of sarcasm too. I was kept on my toes throughout the book.

I'd recommend this book to mature readers because of some of the events in the book. If you want romance, action, and comedy I recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 starsExciting story with a unique plot
on April 18, 2015
Format: Kindle Edition
Sweet Sleep by Kim Cormack is an intense YA novel reminding me something of Alyson Noels Immortal series. Don’t get me wrong the novel and series is quite unique. Kayn and Chloe are twins, completely opposite in every way except their identical looks. Kayn the light innocent twin who doesn’t attract guys, loves to run and has few friends except Kevin. Chloe the dark twin who attracts guys to the point of their insanity. They were special from conception.

Suspense and action fill the story from the start when Kayn is brutally knifed and spends months in the hospital in an induced coma while her body heals. Her best friend Kevin stays by her side. In the months of her coma Kevin changes from a puny teen to a tall, muscled sizzling hot guy. When she awakes her life is different, she’s different – neither she nor Kevin are what she thought. It’s at this point she becomes familiar with immortals and the Ankh discovering the secret behind her and Chloe’s conception.

The novel is long but fast paced and intense. I easily read the first hundred pages before I realized it. My mind was so focused on the story I didn’t want to put it down. There’s fighting, secrecy, legends, vile beasts, telepathic communication and more.

For readers who love a fantastic yet realistic story filled with scheming and passion this is the book.

This is a really great book! I fell in love with the characters and felt there pain and their happiness. Kayn has lost most of her family and nearly lost her own life. Kayn and her twin Chloe was never supposed to be born and when Chloe started to use her gifts things got more messed up. So a correction was in order only not all died. Kayn lived and now she has to join with Chloe spirt. After nearly a year in a coma Kayn wakes up to find her best friend Kevin by her side. When push comes to shove a lot is revealed for the couple. Can they save each other or will one be lost forever? I give this a 5 fang review.

Young and old alike will enjoy this story. This story is not over thank goodness and I am waiting with great anticipation for the next book in this series. It always amazes me that someone like Kim Cormack can come up with a book that is so different than most of the run of the mill books that are on the market today. The story keeps you enthralled from the get go and it is hard to put down. You wind up reading chapter after chapter wondering what is coming next. Well done Kim --- looking forward to the next one.

Chloe and Kayn Brighton are twins who may look identical, but they have very different personalities. Chloe’s the ‘naughty’ twin, who doesn’t hesitate to use her beauty to beguile boys and men alike while Kayn is the ‘nice’ twin, who is more sensitive and sweet. When an unspeakable tragedy befalls Kayn and her family, she’s got to stand up and fight. She’s not alone, however, and must depend on some new found allies to help her figure out what is the truth behind her existence. SWEET SLEEP is a beautiful fantasy story which will appeal to fans of some of the best-selling fantasy series out there. I was immensely impressed with the author’s writing style, characters, and believable mythos. The line between fantasy and reality is blurred in a way which is credible. The themes of love, resurrection, change, and death were handled adroitly in a manner which teens and adults will understand and relate to in many ways. SWEET SLEEP is a great story with plenty of action, some romance, and great fantasy elements. I am definitely looking forward to book 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Publisher's Read! September 9, 2014

Format:Paperback
Have you ever read a book that you could not wait till the end, but you really did not want it to be over? You could spend the rest of your life submerged in the tale, because it was just that darn good! It was so well-written that you could not help but to share the title with a friend or in my case with a publishing company I work for. It was so mind blowing that the owners of McWood Publishing voted this a MUST READ page turner! Kim Cormack’s “Sweet Sleep” is considered a Publisher’s Read, because any publishing house in their right mind would be honored to publish this work.

From the cover to the prologue and throughout the entire book I was craving for more, and what Kim Cormack gave me was beyond my imagination. A story about a girl that was so much more than a girl, who falls in love, overcomes tragedy, and evolves into more than she ever knew she could be. Cormack’s, Kayn Brighton was faced with death, life, change, and peace. And when all seemed lost her best friend Kevin stood right beside her. As Kayn fights for her soul and her family she is continuously on the side of great lost, but there is something about this girl that makes her so special. And as a reader you want to ride along as she pursues her journey through life to discover what that spark is.

This YA novel is filled with fantasy-like creatures, demons, battles, love, reincarnation, and heeded messages for the reader. Two of my favorite quotes from this novel were, “We are always so much stronger than we believe ourselves to be” and “All heroes are born out of embers that linger from the fire of great tragedy;” so very true Cormack.

Now, while I love this book some may mention that it is too long or seems a bit stretched, but in my opinion Cormack allowed the story to be evolved at a pace that was needed. She allowed the reader to use their own imagination without being overly descriptive. “Sweet Sleep” is a finessed read. Well done Kim Cormack.

*****I give Sweet Sleep, five out of five stars!

Happy reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fresh, original and gripping paranormal fantasy October 17, 2014
By Coco
Format:Paperback
I was fortunate to receive a copy of this book before it was released. I immediately loved it. I got into it right away and the story is really original and different from other paranormal fantasy books. I couldn't wait to finish but I didn't want to be done!

I'm an adult and loved it but I think any young adult would enjoy this story. I know a lot of people will compare it to Twilight and Harry Potter and while it definitely deserves to be up there with both series (people who loved those will love this too) - this feels totally different, fresh and original.

The author Kim Cormack writes teenagers really well and I felt the characters were very believable, well developed and relate-able.
Also this book wasn't so over the top "paranormal" or "fantasy" that the premise and concept felt unbelievable.
Other books in this genre can sometimes leave you skeptical and shaking your head. Thankfully in Sweet Sleep, as a reader you aren't hit over the head with paranormal/fantasy craziness - just enough that leaves it realistic and intriguing and gradually takes you in at just the right pace.

I am super excited for the next book to come out, and I really hope more people discover how great this is because I have my fingers crossed for a movie! (yes, it's MOVIE Good)

I could not put it down!! Finding the humor in your own repeated deaths it no easy task but Kayn Brighton and the rest of her Clan do just that. I laughed, cried and cringed throughout this book. Sometimes at the same time. Perfect mixture of humor, romance and tragedy all rolled into one. I never knew there were that many twisted ways to die. The hidden message in this book series I totally identified with. I can see my own circle of friends in all the characters and a piece of myself as well, which made them all that more relatable. Kim Cormack has a way of bringing you in and showing you her magically twisted world to the point where you can imagine being there yourself. I can not wait to read what happens next in this series :)

Enlightenment focused a lot on the clan and their moments of bonding and a sense of becoming one unit rather than each individual person. Kayn struggles a lot with not only her own feelings but those of Chloe that seem to linger. I was surprised with some of the revelations made throughout the novel, nothing was predictable. Kims words simply captivated me and when I couldn't read it like going through withdrawal.

The first portion of the book seemed to drag on. The last one left off at an intense moment, i almost expected this one to pick the intense mood right up. I think the story really began to pick up once the summit began and the three new Ankh members had to relive their Sweet Sleeps. It was a great way to give us a glimpse into Zach and Melody's background. There is a lot to be said in this novel. Kayn had to learn how to let go of Kevin, to let go of her past and move on; it was hindering her Enlightenment. How often does our own past hinders our future?

The Testing portion of the book felt something akin to "The Hunger Games," but on a more intense level. I found myself trying to figure out how they were supposed to get out of the crypt and pass the test. The characters grew more complex and developed in this installment, and I suspect we haven't seen everything there is to see with them. While Kayn remains a main character the story doesn't primarily focus on her individually but on the Ankh clan as a whole and their relationship together, especially that of Kayn, Melody and Zach. Zach is a mysterious character for me, I feel as if there is more to him than we've seen so far.

I am excited to see what Kim has in store for us in the next installment and cannot wait to get my hands on it. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the fantasy genre and give it a 4 out of 5 rating. What do you have in store for us next Kim?

“What would you do if you discovered that everything you’ve ever known to be your reality was a lie?”
Kim Cormack’s paranormal fantasy Enlightenment, book 2 in the Children of Ankh series, makes readers question this very thing. This masterpiece is the very essence of action, adventure, suspense, power, romance, and raw emotion. Right from the first page, while providing background information on relatable characters and drawing the reader into a story that they will never want to end and will never, ever forget, Cormack slams the reader with a plethora of emotions. You will feel. You will hurt. Be prepared for it. I teared up quite a few times. At the same time, the story is amazing and its pacing is perfect. While you may want to read the first book just to have read the series in order, I don’t believe it’s not necessary. I myself was able to follow each part of the story easily. I won’t give it all away, but I will say that Kim is a master of her craft. I stayed up late into the night reading this one and could not put it down. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the Children of Ankh series. Enlightenment was amazing!

"Enlightenment" is the second in the "Children of Ankh" series and quickly picks up as Kayne attempts to find closure from her lost love Kevin, while dealing with confusing feelings toward Frost, building lifesaving bonds with her team, and preparing for Enlightenment. As much as I enjoyed the first book, I liked this one more. It was a longer story, but far quicker read and keeps you on the edge of your seat through all the twists and turns. There were times that I wanted to tell Kayne "just move on", all while my heart was breaking for her. The "test" was an accumulation of all the horrible ways to die and I did at times think "enough already, let the poor people move on", but there are some fantastic life lessons. This book also ends in a cliff hanger making you salivate for the next story. I obviously rate this book 5 hearts.

Kevin’s gone and what was left of Kayn’s family is deceased, so what now? As she attempts to create a relationship and life with a new family, Kim Cormack’s main character, Kayn, is haunted by the truth that things won’t ever be the same. Will she accept the fate she has been dealt, which requires her to forget about Kevin? Will she find a rhythm with Frost and evolve into a true member of Ankh? Or will she remain loyal to a lost love and jeopardize everything? These are just some of the questions readers will find themselves asking as they become engulfed in "Enlightenment." But more importantly, was Cormack able to deliver another good read?

In the first few chapters readers are re-accumulated with the characters mentioned in book I. As the story unfolds we get a better understanding of the different members of Ankh. In fact, the story reads like the great preparation before the epic storm, and then all hell breaks loose.

Filled with humor and scenes that make you blush, Cormack shows readers that she isn’t a one dimensional author. Within this novel, there is a depth of symbolic meanings that will leave impressions on readers. There is also a story that will capture the imagination of ever booklover. However, at times the story has its slow sections or areas in which one may wonder, “Why was this event needed in the story?” Yet, readers will learn that Cormack has a reason for everything, and she so brilliantly tells this story. So don’t fret, because in fact this story is told in breadcrumbs.

Leaving no stone unturned Cormack allows readers to journey through Kayn’s attempt to become enlightened, and trust me when I say the treats at the end will have you soaring the sky.

Enlightenment The Children of Ankh is the second in this amazing series. I haven’t read book 1 but was easily able to pick up the story, so I will say that you can easily just read book 2 if you so wish.

The characters are all well-developed and easy to get to know, some likeable others not so, but they all have their individual nuances and foibles making each believable.

The plot is fast paced throughout, full of excitement and emotion from page 1. You will need those tissues handy for the sadder parts. Be ready to experience every emotion in your vocabulary from love, laughter, fear, hatred, excitement, etc. They will be strong and frequent.

What more can I say? This is a must read for anyone who loves fantasy or paranormal. Enjoy.

Enlightenment is the sequel to Sweet Sleep and picks up where it left off. Kayn is distraught as Kevin has been taken by the Triad, his memory wiped. She ponders their love that had just begin to blossom before the Triad got hold of him. Her life becomes consumed by how much she misses him, but as an Ankh there is no time to mourn. She and two others have to become enlightened. That is where the games begin.

Kayn, Melody, and Zach are sent into the crypt to be enlightened, meaning find their gifts. The crypt is an ever changing world of torture and death. The three along with members of the other clans must fight their way out. There are rules which they must learn to make it out and back to the real world. Throughout their experience death is relative and Cormack’s imagination came up with many interesting ways to die. They hop from one nightmare to the next is a seemly never-ending nightmare.

Enlightenment is a fast paced novel that had me cringing and nail biting. The action is non-stop and the characters jumped off the pages and came to life. The story never halts or slows but plows onward at high-speed culminating in a heck of a climax and opening the door for the next book in the series.

For fantasy/ paranormal/ horror/ action this series is a must!

Kim Cormack has done it again with this thrilling novel! I can honestly say i loved this book more than the first one!

Book 1 was so emotionally gripping i almost bawled but book 2 did not disappoint! Kayn is now eighteen and a member of clan Ankh. But she struggles with her newly found duties. Along with that, she is mourning the loss of her love, Kevin, to clan Triad. She's in constant battle with herself-should she let her best friend and love go or should she cling to his memory in hope that one day all would be well? Kevin had his memory wiped when he joined Triad and all his dreams seem to be of this mysterious blonde girl, but who is she? Why can't he remember?

This book felt like a book on self-discovery. Kayn really grows in this one and i kept remembering her form the last book and i felt her ease with her new friends. Her friendships grow in Ankh as she forges stronger bonds with each of the members every day. I felt her character was much more mature for example after all the loss she'd gone through, she still had to lose Matt(her brother) but she understood why. I kinda missed his over protectiveness in this book, it was really sad to see him go. I did however adore Grey in this book! I really felt the sibling connection between him and Kayn. I loved the new characters as well-all different but all amazing

Let's talk about Frost! For one, i was absolutely thrilled to have seen more of him in this novel. I adore him so much!!Kayn struggles with her feelings for him. Now that she's merged with her twin, it seems that her sister's emotions have become her own. But how does she differentiate her feelings from that of her sister?? I don't know if Kayn is destined for love but she sure as hell is destined to be an amazing character in all the series to come.

This book often left me gasping when the unexpected happened. It's that feeling you get when you read a book and you're reading through a tense moment. You flip the page faster and faster because the tension is so high and then you have to read it all again to make sure you read it right. I loved that last paragraph of the book! It felt so confident and affirming as Kayn finally finds out who she was meant to be. She's grown so much and i'm sure she has so much stuff left to learn.

This book has it all, nail-biting sensations, love, action, friendship, intrigue, heartbreak and even some funny moments. Kim Cormack keeps adding new unique characters to her books and they all form part of this giant family that you can't help but love and envy! One thing is for sure, Kim Cormack is one heck of an amazing emotional writer!!!!

These are just some of the questions readers will find themselves asking as they become engulfed in "Enlightenment." I didn't want to put this book down. The characters traits are so relevant to my own personality. I never knew there were that many ways to die, a few I could not even have dreamt up in my wildest of dreams. The under lying message in this book really hit home, but I am not going to spoil it for anyone else. I laughed and cried till it hurt and then laughed and cried some more. The combination between humor, romance and tragedy is perfect. The world that Kim Cormack has created in the first two books is absolutely magical and mysterious. Do you think you would be able to stand the trials and come out sane on the other side? I am not sure I could but maybe I already have.

Hurry up book 3, I want to know what comes next for Kayn Brighton and the rest of the clan members.. Definitely need more Frost.

Enlightenment was amazing.

Let me go ahead and say that I kept putting this book on the side seeing I had other things to read for school but once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. The plot, the characters, everything was impeccable.
We start the book off with Kayn, a girl that seems pretty normal. She has a best friend named Kevin and a family that loves her a lot. After a day of running, a man comes and attacks her home and family. She and her brother are the only ones to survive, seeing that her brother wasn't there. Being in a coma for 7 months, she has some problems coping with her life. Finding out that it is her and her brother in life. With Kevin's help, it seems to go back to normal. When Kayn starts to see her dead sister Chloe, she knows something isn't right. Chloe possess her body at time, making her have no control. She can read people's minds and can move things if she thinks about it for a while. What could be causing all of this to be happen? Read the book to know!
Fans of Stephen King's Carrie or Michelle Hodkins' Mara Dyer series or even the Beautiful Creators series will enjoy this book. This book is beautiful and will enjoy this book a whole lot. You will be happy with what you spent your money on!

Frost is my favorite! Talk about sexy, right? I can't wait to see what happens with him in the next book! This is the first book I've read where the girls are actually relatable too, lol. Kayn especially. The story is FANTASTIC so far. I really hope the series keeps going how its going! Xoxo PeAcE!

Sweet Sleep Kim Cormack

I am a geek, it's been stated before here on my Book Blog that I love fantasy fiction. However, I am not an 18 year old girl and I am not a fan of the book industries constant flow of teenage directed love stories. Having said that when you have a bit of an insider’s scoop on an up and coming author and you are pretty darn sure that a book just might inspire a story that takes the well-developed characters into adulthood maybe there is some hope!

Sweet sleep is book one of a series 'The children of Ankh', and I haven't had the chance to read the book (expected to be release in May) in its completed form yet, but I have read the first chapter and my immediate response was 'Oh my goodness, this will make one kick @@@ scary movie.' (The quote was edited for use in some advertisements.)

I always say that a novel needs to grab my attention in that first chapter for me to prioritize it on my reading list. After reading just one chapter, I already feel like I have a connection with 'Kayn' and I can't wait to read this book in its published form.I wonder what clan I would be?
